No matter how long the winter...

...spring is sure to follow.

That quote makes me smile.  We're having our first really cold weather right now.  19 degrees this morning but it felt like 7 degrees with the wind chill.  Way too cold for me.  I don't necessarily hate winter because there are some good things about it.  Hot chocolate, fleece-lined boots and sweaters are a few.  I even bought a new pair of leggings that has fleece in the legs for added warmth.  They are so comfy!

I hate 19 degrees feeling like some 7, though.

I may not be able to have springtime outside right now but I know it's coming.  I have so much planned for the yard this year!!  An herb garden!  Tomatoes!  Squash!!  Calendula!  Daisies!!  Just all kinds of stuff.

I may not be able to have springtime outside today but I can have it on our bed.  :)

And that'll do for now.

Weekend three

So hard to believe this is our third weekend together.  Yesterday we went shopping at the mall here, had Chick-fil-A for lunch, popped in to Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret but didn't stay very long at either place because they were having their semi-annual sales and were soooo busy!  We bought some really cool albums at f.y.e, Janis Joplin and Crosby Stills and Nash and I got a Michonne bobblehead!  She's my favorite Walking Dead character and I just love her bobblehead.  I think she looks awesome on our coffee table.  :)

Larry even rode the Garfield car!  Well, not really.  But he tried.  He could barely get his legs to fit.  :)

Last night, we went to our pastor's house for a couples night.  There was us and three other couples.  We had Mexican -- tacos, guacamole, salsa, cheese dip and chips, sliced apples and dip and just had a really, really good time.  We played games, too.  Heads Up and Battle of The Sexes, which was downright hilarious.  We laughed so much our cheeks hurt.  We played girls against boys and the girls won!  The guys cheated SO BAD that I was starting to feel sorry for them.  Ha!  It was really sad.  :)

Today we attended church at Trinity United Methodist, trying to make our rounds to all the churches who supported us and prayed with us throughout our long, long journey.  We have quite a number of churches to visit!  The one furthest away is in Canton.  We'll make that one a weekend trip, I'm sure.

Tonight, we're watching movies and having chips and salsa and cheese dip.  We didn't quite get enough at the party last night!  It's supposed to be c-c-c-c-cold here the next few days so we picked up some starter logs for the fireplace today.

Life is good.  Still SO good.

Welcome winter blah blah blah whatever

This little penguin has his arms crossed 'cause he's just as irritated as I am to have to welcome winter. I hate cold weather. Bleh. I know I have to endure it to get me to April and May so endure it I will. Bleh. By the way, this little penguin was a gift to me today from my Secret Santa at work who turned out to be my Friday work buddy and friend, Lisa!!! Yay!!! She gave me the penguin (who was holding blue marshmallow socks inside his crossed arms!), a Taste of Home cookbook that I love, a pretty pair of silver hoop earrings that I have in my ears right this very minute and drum roll....a President Obama CHIA PET!!! I left everything but the penguin and my earrings at the office so I'll have to post a picture of them tomorrow. I cannot wait to start the Chia Pet!! I've never had one before and I'm looking forward to sharing him with all four of you readers!!! :) He's gonna have the biggest, prettiest, greenest 'fro you ever saw!! We'll start him in January.

Also, today, the doctor I work for took us all out for our Christmas office luncheon at The Swanson House in Perry and it was sooooo good. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the company, everything. The restaurant is tucked smack in the middle of historic downtown Perry. It's a home built in the 1800's and the same family manages the restaurant now. The food was incredible. The little cheese biscuits/muffins were heaven on a plate and it was all I could do not to nom 'em all down right then and there. I had baked chicken and dressing, squash casserole and field peas with snaps. Oh, and a slice of caramel cake for dessert. Everything was great. If you're ever in Perry, you should stop by. It's at the end of Carroll Street. You won't be disappointed!

I Hate January

The holidays are over, the decorations are gone, we're two days into January and I effin' hate it already.  I don't do well in cold weather.  And it's cold here.  Cold as a welldigger's ass and since I come from a family of welldiggers, well, that's pretty cold.

It's so cold that the butter I keep in a little dish beside my stove is hard.  Of course, the heat is on but room temperature is keeping the butter hard.  Y'all. That can't be right.

It was in the mid-twenties last night and I know my Northern (read: Yankee) friends and readers are like "quit yer bitchin'" but I'm gonna whine any-dang-way, 'cause I'm a Georgia girl and it's 'sposed to be warm here, by God.  Monday night, it's supposed to be 18 degrees. 18!!!  I doubt I survive the night.

It's in the 40's today but the wind. Oh my God, the wind. The wind takes the cold to a whole 'nother dominion of hatefulness.

I'm already longing for spring.  For sunny days to plant flowers, to spring clean my house and hang clothes on the line to dry.  To just be outside and listen to the birds sing.

January sucks.  So. Hard.

But wait. What is this?? Could it be daffodils budding by my front door? Why, it is!  It is daffodils budding by my front door!!!
