International City Farmers' Market

I went by the farmers' market on my way home from work today.  We've only gone to a couple of places this summer, Mr. Sasnett's place on Highway 41, Smiley's up in Macon and we've picked up produce and bread and things at yard sales a few times.  I hadn't been to the big market here in Warner Robins all year and I was really excited!  But since it's 182 degrees in the shade this week, it was just too hot for me to enjoy my time there.  I grabbed a loaf of sourdough bread, a dozen fresh brown eggs and some peppers for Larry's omelets, bell, banana and jalapeno, and got the heck on up out of there.

I'm looking forward to going back when I can stay longer!  Maybe October.  :)

Pink weekend

Normally, pink is my favorite color.

I LOVE summer.  It's hell that I'm not real crazy about.  We're in for a triple-digit weekend and it just hit us all of a sudden.  We had the mildest June that I can remember.  Cool mornings and upper 80's in the afternoon.  Just WEDNESDAY, I was wrapped up in a sweatshirt for roll call at work!

Today, however, felt like the devil had eaten habaneros for lunch.

I was lucky enough to be somewhere air conditioned for most of the day today, though.  And it was HOTTTT in that hangar OMG.  We have air conditioning in thin plastic ducts that run up and over the top of the plane but when it's 100 degrees plus and both hangar doors are open, what's the point??  It's really just wasting electricity.  But lemme tell ya, this girl has learned how to plug up, hook up and turn on that huge van-sized air conditioner and cut holes in that duct!

The supervisors grilled steaks for us today and us girls, few that we are, did the girl thing and set everything up, made the baked beans and grilled Vidalia onions, took everything over to where we were going to be meetin' and eatin' and cut the 28 cakes and pies that we had for dessert.  And then we cleaned up afterwards.  You know, the girl thing.  While the guys did the guy thing.  Worked on the airplanes.  Ha!

Along with our steak, the beans and grilled onions, we had potato salad, rolls and roasted ears of corn.  I made Dr. Patrenos' world-famous brown sugar brownies and they got gone quick.  We had apple pies, peach pies, five chocolate cakes, pound cakes, red velvet cake, a candy bar cake, key lime pies, peanut butter pies, blueberry cobbler, apple blueberry crisp, 'nana puddin', cookies, cupcakes, pretty much if you wanted it, we had it.

We got praise for working so hard and I had to stifle a giggle at that.  We do our work but we do not work hard.  The routine out there has taken some getting used to.  What with the breaks and pre breaks and after breaks, I've never seen anything like it.  Plus they give us three hours a week to go work out at the gym.  I'm not knocking it by no means, it's just different.  A whole new wonderful different world.  :)

So I was happy to know that we're doing a good job, getting the planes out on schedule, rewiring them right so that they don't crash.  That's a biggie.  :)   We're the best of the best and I'm excited that they are letting ME be a part of that.

It's stupid hot, y'all.  Stay safe out there, ya hear??  Check on your pets and the old folks.

Ding ding ding, I believe we have a Wenner!

I was up late the other night and I caught an infomercial for this stuff.  Wen cleansing conditioner.  Alyssa Milano told me that if I have a bad hair day, it might not be my hair, it might be my shampoo.  I always did like that girl. So I decided I'd order some and try it.  Lord knows, I've tried everything else on my baby fine hair.  My tubs are always full of various volumizing, hydrating shampoos and conditioners, promising me the moon and never following through.  It may be time for us to see other people.

But Wen!  Wen is supposed to be a one-step miracle, glory halleluyer answer to the woe and wretchedness that is my hair.  The directions say to use 10-15 pumps, massage it in real good, leave it on for 3-5 minutes, then rinse it out.  You can put a little on as a leave-in conditioner after you rinse if you need to.  It claims to take the place of your traditional shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner.

So I ordered a bottle and it came today! Here it is, in my tub, next to my hippie oatmeal soap.  I used it immediately and I am happy to report that I really, really liked it.  The first time out.  It smells incredible (all minty and almondy) and left my hair really silky and shiny.  See??

It's a little pricey so I would recommend getting it from Amazon first and see if you like it before you commit to the Wen automatic ordering process.  Or even better than that, check eBay!  And oh yeah, you don't need 10 pumps of that stuff.  I used three.

In other news, it's still stupid hot here.  I took this picture today at a bank in my neighborhood.  I have never seen that bank clock register temperature this high before.

Yow!!

I'm not complaining, though.  I'd rather it be 107 than 37 any old day.  I hate winter, I hate being cold and not being able to get warm enough.  But I am starting to get a little excited when I think about October.

Hottest day

So, yeah, they're saying today is the hottest day of the summer so far.

Our Sonya Stevens from Channel 13, talkin' all kinds of crazy

I spent a good bit of this hottest day out there in it this afternoon.  I pruned some trees in my front yard that were just overgrown to the point that I could not stand them anymore.  This is how they look now.  I didn't take a before picture.

My eucalyptus tree was laying on TOP of the roof

And this branch slapped me in the face
every time I walked out to my car.
That mess was getting old.

Here it all is, piled up and compost-y!!

So then I washed my car
(at the car wash, I ain't that crazy)

And I watered my backyard Uncle J. B., who finally came up but is looking
a little wild-eyed and crazy to me.  They usually don't spread out like that.  Hmmmm.  Mama??  (Loki the garden gnome says, "Move along, there's nothing to see here. No wild-eyed foolishness whatsoever.")

And then I watered my bewuved 'mater babies,
filled the bird bath up with cold water and swept the driveway.

Whew!!  That Mentha body wash ain't nevah felt so good!!!  And now I'm about to watch a movie on Lifetime in my COLD house and chill.  Literally.  Y'all stay cool out there!!  Check on your elderly neighbors!!
