Valentine Tea Cart Time!

I put together a little Valentine tea cart tonight and I think it turned out just LOVEly!

I just love the pink pom pom trim!! 

Larry put a little book in my stocking at Christmas called What I Love About Us and inside, he filled in the blanks.  I thought it was just perfect for the tea cart.  Some of his answers were funny...

And some were oh, so sweet.

Christmastime's a'coming!

We did a little Christmas decorating this weekend.  Got the tree up and I got my tea cart done today.  

I love how it turned out!

We got all of our shopping done and we'll do the lights outside and the porch next week.  I'm gettin' excited!!!

What we've been up to!

Another month is nearly gone!  We decided to take the month of January off, as in NO plans for the weekends, to just rest and do some projects around the house.  The holidays were so crazy and we were so rushed to go here and get that so we decided to have a peaceful, easy January and we have.  It's been so nice!

We'll kick off February with Ami's birthday and then start hitting estate sales again!  I'm so excited.  It's been a while since we went to a good one and I think my body's in detox!  I'm also looking forward to the Peaches to the Beaches yard sale in March, too, and maybe another trip down to Florida before summer.  Yay!!  Beach!!!

The Great Blizzard of 2016 proved to be a blink-and-you'll-miss-it dusting of snow around here.  Literally.  If your eyes were closed at 4:30 Saturday morning, you missed it.  I was up, excited to see something, so I let Banjo out around 4:45 to find everything outside covered in a fine snow dust.  That was enough for me!  I woke Larry up to come see!  This was our little patio table.  :)

It was all gone by 7:00.  The blizzard was pretty bad further north.  14 deaths were reported and some states got three to four feet of snow.  No, please and thank you.  The Good Lord knew exactly where to plant my feet!  I'll take my little powder-dusted table any time.

One of my January projects was to clean out my closet and dresser drawers.  I got rid of everything I had not worn since we bought this house and I was amazed at the things I still had!  I boxed up some 100 items and we took them to the Heart of Georgia hospice thrift store in Byron.  We like to go there not only because we find rare vintage treasures sometimes but because they do so much for the terminally ill and their families.  And it's all non-profit and volunteer.  They survive solely on donations.  We took a truck load of stuff up there and brought a few things back.  :)

Some of the things we brought back were scarves, hats and gloves that we donated to Chase The Chill here in Central Georgia.  We saw a story about them on Channel 13 about them leaving scarves and hats tied to trees in Washington Park for the homeless in Macon and we wanted to be a part of that.  We bought every scarf, hat and pair of gloves the store had and when I told the cashier what we were going to do with all those things, she had tears in her eyes and let us have them all for 29 cents a piece!  We met someone from the local chapter the other night and gave her a bag full.  We are going to be on the lookout for things like that at yard sales and estate sales from now on.  You can get scarves and hats virtually for free at estate sales.  No reason we can't try to make someone's winter night a little warmer.

We got this little plant stand at the thrift store that day, too.  It was a sad sight but I saw potential!  I saw a place for it on our front porch!  I think we paid $4 for it.  Larry painted it for me and gave it back to me today, as an early Valentine's present.

I put together a Valentine's tea cart.  I don't have a lot of Valentine love stuff (crazy, I know, since we got married on February 13th!) and I hope to add to my tea cart collection this year.  Of course, I had to decorate with some Pyrex!  March 1st, the Easter cart goes up!  

I just love these vintage Valentine party napkins I picked up at an estate sale last year.  And my Beatles All You Need Is Love tablecloth that Brandy made for me years ago.  :)

My 1958 Holt Howard Cozy Kitty salt and pepper shakers are perfect for a love theme.  That little flea bite on his nose is adorable to me.  I thought about fixing it but it's just so dang cute!

I graduated from my Georgia Tech OSHA program last week.  They gave us a really nice ceremony in the ballroom of the Horizon Event Center at the base.  We had three guest speakers and we were presented with these beautiful certificates mounted in pretty wood and glass frames.  They also gave us a really nice Georgia Tech laptop bag and lapel pin.  

I'm back in my office in F-15s now after having been in the Commander's Action Group VPP office for four months.  It's kinda like starting all over again each time I come back "home" but we're getting there.  I'm going to start teaching some of this OSHA knowledge to my folks in the coming months.  We're undergoing a complete restructure in our squadron since Rewire is now finished.  I've had mixed feelings about that.  On the one hand, I remember how miserable I was when I worked there but on the other hand, I'm grateful for the things I learned (about the plane and about ME) and for the people I met and worked with "down the hill".  We had a lot of fun in spite of all of our challenges.  So I am a little sad about Rewire standing down.  It just seems weird that there will be no more F-15 rewire work done at Robins. The end of an era, so to speak.  Most all of the people are still with us, though, nobody lost their job over it, but there won't be any more running 27 MILES OF WIRE through that plane, clamping them down, stripping and then splicing them together to make that fabulous girl fly.  We'll be just fixing her now, fine-tuning her and adding technology to make her better.  I thank God every day for the opportunity He gave me when He sent me to Robins Air Force Base and for the doors He opens for me at every turn.  I can't wait to see what He's got in store for me next.  I know it's going to be awesome.

More summer tea cart!

I added a couple of things to my summer tea cart.

I found this adorable vintage Florida souvenir creamer on eBay for $3.50 and after not getting it for two weeks and getting my money back, it came in the mail yesterday!  I love it when stuff like that happens!  We sent the money right back to them.  It was only right and I was so happy to have it!!

Larry and I went to a very disorganized yard sale Saturday.  Lord, I hate those!  They make me nervous.  I cannot stand to have to dig through boxes and bags.  Ugh.  Just keep yo' stuff.  But sometimes you find a treasure when you dig through a box.  I found a mint 1966 Empire Santa blow mold that way once.  And got it for fifty cents.  This time, I found this old Kodak Instamatic camera and when Larry told me he used to have one just like it, I grabbed it.  And got it for two dollars.  So it goes on the summer tea cart 'cause everybody knows you take lots of pictures in the summer!

Summer Tea Cart

 



Now that the 4th has come and gone, I got started on a summertime tea cart.  This is what we've got so far.

A fishy, a little bit of blue, a pretty fluffy hydrangea, a starfish, pink flamingos, a sunflower, some oranges, seashells and a crab.  

It's a work in progress but I like how it's shaping up!

I think it needs a mermaid, though. 

This sweet little fish is actually a 1950's fish wall pocket.  I got him at an antique store for $5.  He's going on my bathroom wall when the fall tea cart goes up!  I just love that little face!!

I popped in at our local Salvation Army this afternoon and it's a good thing I did!  I found the most awesome 1960's dining room set with a huge table and six chairs for $90!  I loved it at first sight.  I loved the solid wood, the amazing quality you just don't find nowadays, the vintage atomic style of the chairs, every little thing about it.  I got home and googled it and found out it's a Broyhill Premier Emphasis set and it's selling for $650 right now on Etsy.  I am so excited to get it home tomorrow!!  It needs a good bath and some TLC and I am just the girl for the job.  I will have that thing sparkling by dark.  :)

While I was in there, I looked around and I found this vintage Disney World mug with Larry's name on it!!  I got it for 30 cents.  It's a little worse for the wear (probably dishwasher damage) but I had to have it.  It goes on the summer tea cart because you go to Disney World in the summertime!  You also get you a Florida Orange Bird bank if you go to Florida on vacation and you're a kid in the 1970's.  And I was and I did.  :)

4th of July Tea Cart!

I put together this little July 4th tea cart last week.  I love how it turned out!

Larry found this old political button at The Big Peach in Byron Friday.  It's from the 60's, reminiscent of Eisenhower's I Like Ike campaign.  We liked its simple hippie philosophy.  :)

My Birthday Tea Cart!

June is my birthday month!  And thanks to my sweet mama, who so lovingly kept my baby book and saved so many things from my childhood, I had some vintage things to make a birthday tea cart!  That Happy Birthday napkin is from my BEST birthday ever!  My third one, the year I got my Mrs. Beasley doll.  I still remember how excited I was to get her.  I still have her.

I'll be adding things here and there throughout the month but this is it!

Can you think of anything better to go in it than a few candles from my own birthday cakes??

I got this card when I was ONE from my beloved Maw and Paw.  (And I picked up the little baby birthday angel at an estate sale a few weeks ago.)

This ballerina danced across my twelfth birthday cake, made by my mama, just as all of my birthday cakes were.  Still are.  :)

I got these two little cuties on eBay, too.

 

Mama and I got this little cowgirl baby planter with flowers in it at the hospital when I was born.  The company Daddy worked for sent it to us.

Thank you so much, Mama, for saving all this stuff for me and for teaching me to take care of my things.  Stuff you wouldn't really think would matter absolutely DOES matter when you are older.  It means so much.

So, Happy Birthday Month to me!  I can't wait to see what this month holds!

Just ducky!

I went by the antique mall here in town today after work to look at a blue floral loveseat Larry found.  If I liked it, I was going to pay for it and he'd go get it tomorrow.  I want one to make a little reading nook in our bedroom and we've been on the hunt!  Figures I loved it and figures it was sold when I got there.  It had a receipt pinned to it.  Oh well.  It was $250 anyway and if I can get out of paying more than $50, I will.  Ha!  It was a beaut, though!!  Since I had $250 in my pocket, I decided to look around.  I turned the corner and I saw him.  I have become obsessed with vintage light-up blow mold figures.  I want all of the blow mold figures that remain on this planet.  And there on a table, looking dead at me with huge blue eyes, was the cutest little blow mold Easter DUCK!!!  I actually squealed out loud in the store.  I ran a sprint ever so calmly walked over there and scooped him up, not even looking at the price tag.  Didn't care.  I knew he'd be perfect on my Easter tea cart.  And he is!!

I also picked up a couple of things that I wanted the last time we were there and I didn't get them.  A Lefton spaghetti pink cat with rhinestone eyes...

...and a Glasbake milk glass Have A Nice Day blue tulip coffee mug. 

So long, February!

This month is gone already!  Shortest month of the year and probably the coldest one we're gonna get.  I hope!  We missed the snow by about a hundred miles and I am not mad.  It's been cold, though.  Stupid cold for me and I'm ready to welcome March and a little sunshine! 

We have been very busy around here!  Larry got a new job (thank you, Jesus!) and right now, it's six days a week.  We are grateful, though he is tired.  If you think about it, say a prayer for him please. 

Larry's birthday was the 24th and we celebrated pretty much all week.  Starting on Sunday, the 22nd, in Atlanta with Rhiana, Juan and the girls.  They threw him a surprise party and I played my part, telling him we were going up there to fix a few things around their house.  He did fix a couple of things but he also had German chocolate birthday cake, strawberry shortcake ice cream, blue and white birthday balloons, an awesome gift of an in-ground basketball system and all the hugs and squeals he could stand from his girls.  Since I couldn't actually tell him we were having a party, he made plans to meet some old friends while we were in Atlanta so after we left the kids, we drove to Cumberland Mall to The Cheesecake Factory for a reunion and another birthday celebration.  I had never been to The Cheesecake Factory so when Larry asked me to pick the place, it was an easy choice!  I got a slice of heaven in their Lemon Raspberry cheesecake and when we sneaky-sneak asked them to come out and sing "Happy Birthday" to him, I ordered a slice of their German chocolate for them to put the candle in.  Them folks know how to make cheesecake!

On the night before his actual birthday, I baked him another German chocolate cake (it IS his favorite, after all!) and decorated the living room with streamers, balloons and I even got a small pinata and filled it full of candy and hung it up with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY banner.  He was genuinely surprised when he came home because we'd said no more cake and no more party, blah blah blah.  Sneaky-sneak.  That's what you do, right?  I played along and then did what I wanted to do anyway. Ha!

I was sick with a sinus headache on his birthday (but NOTHING LIKE LAST YEAR OMG) but after swallowing a handful of sinus medicine and Excedrin, I was feeling pretty good by noon so we went to Lowe's and got a couple of white porch rockers for our front porch.  Larry had those things together in 20 minutes!  They look so nice on the porch.

I can't wait to get some hanging baskets of pretty flowers and ferns and a big old bowl of peas to shell.  :)

Since tomorrow is March, I took down my Valentine tea cart and started putting together my Easter one.  This is what I have so far.

I just love this little guy.
