Call me a porch cat but just don't call me late for supper

Here are two of our porch cats, having their supper.

I love Daisy's face!  Sweet girl.  And her mama, Clemmie, who just hangs out here with us all day every day.  We haven't been able to catch her yet.  She's too smart! She's letting me get awfully close lately so maybe I can grab her soon.  I don't know what I'll do with her when I do, though!  I gotta come up with a plan.

Bonaire Porch Cats

There are a few houses in our neighborhood where feral kitties can find food, shelter, a kind word, a comfy pad or rug to nap on and safety.  Ours is one of them.

Currently, we are feeding and caring for five.  The first, a girl we call Clementine (Clemmie), started it all about three years ago.  She took up here and we started feeding her.  Before long, she brought her kittens and we fed them.  Life on the outside is hard on kitties and some of her babies have not survived.  We hope that some have moved on to other neighborhoods, been rescued and are still alive but we have no way of knowing that.  We take care of the ones who come to us and nobody goes hungry around here.  And you can always nap, no matter your species.

I've started taking pictures of them out on the porch and posting them on Instagram.  Bonaire Porch Cats is what I'm calling them.

Clemmie is getting old.  She's in rough shape with a mangled ear from various tom cats and she keeps pink eye.  We are attempting to catch her tomorrow and our neighbor has arranged for her to be spayed and her ear and eyes seen about.  Our neighbor also intends to rehome her to a family in the country.  I will miss her immensely but I want her to be happy.  I want her to live out her last days comfortable and safe.  No more toms and no more babies.

This is the best picture I've been able to get of her.  She just looks so sad.  Hang on, Clementine Ruby, help is on the way, baby.

Clemmie has one set of kittens who are almost a year old that still come around.  Daisy May and Delilah Jane.  They are identical so I have no idea which one this is.

And the wee babies, Lucky Joe and Lily Belle, who hitched a ride with us to the movies a couple of Sunday afternoons ago.  They were in the tire well of the truck, just chillin'.  Lily jumped down, jumped back up in there and was seen by a group of teenagers who waited beside the truck until we came out of the theater.  We were too afraid to try to force them out, for fear they'd run and we'd never catch them, so we left them in there and drove home, me frantically looking in the rearview mirror for one of them to fall out and get run over.  That caused me SO MUCH stress and anxiety!

I have become such a softy where these cats are concerned.  Larry, too.  He goes out in the mornings before leaving for work to feed them and I refresh their water bowls with cold water throughout the day.  And then we feed them again before bedtime.  There are several ladies in the neighborhood who also feed them but evil thrives everywhere and we've had people threaten the kitties, too.  We haven't seen a tom in months, just Clemmie and her four babies.

Anyway, here's Lucky, looking up at me from the flower bed.

He had just pooped and was saying, "why are you watching me potty?"  :)

Visions of sugar plums and flamingos!

I took an extra day off today to get some stuff done and one of them was the porch!

I wanted a little pink tree with sugar plums and flamingos and I've been collecting things for weeks.

I will tweak it a thousand times before Christmas but this is how it looks today!

They're here...finally

I'll be your friend, I'll be your lover
Until the end, there'll be no other
'Cause my heart has only room for one
Yes, I'll always love you, and I'll always be here for you
And I'll stand by you through our rockin' years

Garden update!

We've had a lot of rain this week and our little garden loved it!  Everything is so lush and green and growing!

We have eight little green tomatoes that are almost the right size to fry!

Larry cut the grass today and it looks sooooo good!

I have been really, really tired lately so while I slept in yesterday morning, Larry went estate saleing all by himself.  He brought me home lots of goodies!  A good bit of Pyrex and this beautiful seashell chime that we immediately hung on the front porch.

It reminds me of the beach and I just love it!

I'm still loving my blue porch ceiling!!

I've been growing these little beauties in pots on the porch.

Tabbie Hoffman loves to be on the porch with Mama.  And it was a glorious 78 degrees today so Mama loved it, too!

Estate sale weekend!

There was a fabulous estate sale in town this weekend!  I went three times!  I was third in line Thursday morning when it started and I got some stuff, I took Larry back yesterday and we got some stuff and then I went back this afternoon when what was left was half off and I got some stuff.  Christmas presents and resale, mostly, and the stuff I got for us we'll use and I got some great deals.  This sale was in a ritzy neighborhood, huge house, tons of stuff and nothing in that house came from Target, I'll just say that.  Last night, I realized that I knew the lady who lived there from my other life at the doctor's office.  It made me even sadder to know that.  She passed away in February from cancer at the very young age of 63.  She was just getting to enjoy her grandbabies.  I remember her so well.  And "bubbly" is the word I would use to describe her.  She was always so sweet, so happy, with a big old smile on her face and always dressed like she walked right out of a magazine.  They had money and she spent it.  Ha!  Her husband, not being able to live in that house anymore without her, moved and the house and its contents are being liquidated and sold.

Anyway, yesterday, we got Larry some winter clothes (Eddie Bauer and American Eagle flannel shirts for $3 and practically new work pants and jeans).  I took the tags off them and made a pile on the floor to get them ready to wash and Tabbie Hoffman pretty much lost his mind over 'em.  :)  He would not get off them!  I got a couple of flower pots and some little stuff.  I wanted to get the other two pom pom pillows to go with the yellow one I got Thursday but since everything was going to be half off today, I waited and got them this afternoon.  There were 300 people there this afternoon!  I was #17 at 12:30.  By 1:00, there were 100 people in line.  It was crazy!!  I waited in line an hour to pay and when I left, people were parking two streets over and walking.  IN. SANE.

Yesterday before we went to that sale, Larry and I stopped at a little church fundraiser and I got this set of vintage salt and pepper shakers.  A sweet little Amish couple!  They're not really fall-ish but I still put 'em on my tea cart.

Then we drove out to Jeffersonville to an estate sale at this old rundown farmhouse that I've seen for years and years on the way to Savannah or the beach.  I've always wanted to see it!!  And yesterday, I got the chance!  Y'all know this house, don't you??  It's on Highway 96 on the way to I-16 to go to the beach!

Here's the orange juice pitcher!  $2.50!

It's been closed up with no electricity or water for fourteen years.  And surprisingly, it's in pretty good shape inside.  It has the most beautiful wooden beams and bead board all throughout!  I wanted some of that wood most of all.  Since there is no electricity, the listing told us to bring a flashlight and we did.  Larry found us an afghan to go on our $5 yellow floral sofa and I got a 1970's orange juice pitcher.  And we got a beautiful Egyptian rug for FREE just because it had been on the porch and was wet from the rain.  I put it on the deck and shampooed that thing twice yesterday and as soon as we get enough sun to dry it completely, it's coming in the house!  Here's Tabbie Hoffman laying on the afghan and the now THREE pom pom pillows!

Today, back at the big house estate sale, I picked up two pairs of yoga pants with the tags still on them for $2 each, pajamas, brand new baby boy burp cloths for our great-nephew who'll be here at Christmas, a giant plush throw pillow and two adorable glass Christmas ornaments (one is a Christmas tree and the other is this super cute Santa hot air balloon one!

And here's the reason I went back today.  To get this old braided rug for our porch.  It was $30 but I said if it's meant to be, it'll still be there today for $15.  And it was!  I just love it!

Here's my fall tea cart so far!  I love how it's come together.  That little sign says, "Let's Get Stuffed!".  Ha!

The front porch

I worked some more on our front porch this weekend, too.  This summer has just been too hot to enjoy the porch but fall is coming!!  I ordered our tickets to see Alabama at the fair in October yesterday and I really cannot wait.  I haven't seen them since 2006, I think, when they had their Farewell Tour and it was there in Perry that I saw them and I cried thinking I'd never see them again and would never see them with Larry.  After all I had experienced in my crazy running-after-Alabama days, it broke my heart to think I would never get to share any of that with Larry.  Well, they're coming back and we're going to meet 'em there.  Sans Mark, of course, and to me, Alabama without Mark just ain't Alabama.  But like Patty Loveless taught us, life's about changin', nothing ever stays the same.  I'll go see Randy, Teddy and Jeff and I'll scream my fool head off and I'll show my husband a side of me he ain't never seen.  :)

So, back to the porch.  I went to an estate sale with a coworker Friday and I picked up two little metal tables for five bucks a piece that I thought would look cute on our porch.  Here's a pic of them before, in the picture from the sale.  I circled 'em in pink!

Here they are now, after I painted them and put some flowers on 'em!

Here's some more flower pots I've collected and the man I collected, too.  :)

We got this rug this summer for $10.  I just love it.

At the estate sale of artist Audrey Hunnicutt in Fort Valley a few weeks ago, I got a bunch of baskets and I don't know what that jug thing is but I liked it and it was $2.  It's really heavy and really cool.

I went to the grand opening of our new HomeGoods store today and got this boho wooden bead birds and bells garland.

It was made in India and is really, really pretty.

Another estate sale find that found its way to our house.  I think I paid a quarter for it.  Its message is priceless, though.
